The Hide Safari Camp
2017 Highlights

We had much to celebrate this year with The Hide turning 25! The camp started as a simple vision and dream to create something exceptional in this wonderful corner of Africa and it has since grown, over the years, to become one of the most iconic and celebrated camps in Southern Africa. In honour of this momentous occasion, we hosted a variety of events and encouraged guests who have shared our journey over the last 25 years, to send through old pictures, so we could re-live their safari experience again.

Throughout the safari season we see lots of the day’s action unfolding right in front of camp, where wildlife loves to gather. We had an exhilarating experience this year when wildlife photographer, conservationist and lawyer Callum Gerrish, was staying with us and he fortunately witnessed an incredible and unique sighting. A young well-known male lion, named Kakore, had a buffalo kill right in camp and devoured his meal right outside Tent 7, where Callum was residing, allowing him to capture some amazing photographs.

The scope and scale of Hwange’s wildlife is such that there is always something exciting to see on your activities and fantastic photographic opportunities around every corner.

One of our highlights this year was seeing this beautiful family of Cheetahs at our waterhole, a mother, and her five teenage cubs.

We had a notable actress and lifestyle blogger, Kristina Guberman, visit us at The Hide this year to shoot her TV show “Epic Safari Girl” which is set to be released middle of 2018. Kristina’s blog of her Zimbabwean wildlife and bush adventures is entertaining and beautifully compiled.

The Hide’s secret getaway, The Dove’s Nest, received an upgrade this year and now provides the perfect romantic night out in Hwange! We plan to extend this even further by adding a new bathroom in 2018 which will further compliment this unique and private retreat.

Over the years we have firmly believed that to protect our environment in Hwange, the first place to start with is to support the people who live there. With this in mind, we created The Hide Community Trust in 2015, a non-profit organization that runs alongside The Hide Safari Camp, working with a small community that surrounds Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe.

Empowering communities to generate an income whilst at the same time as protecting their environment is our mission and this year we placed our focus on two main goals. Poverty relief of the generation of wealth by a promotion of social enterprise as well as education on the importance of environmental conservation.

We put this into action by holding tree planting sessions, making homemade compost to cover fields, creating beautiful rocket stove and we even managed a kiln out of termite mounds and spare car parts, to make beautiful glass beads to re-sell.  Click here to read more and follow the latest projects: https://www.facebook.com/thehidecommunitytrust/
