OUR STORY
Continuing a legacy
of creating thrilling connections in nature
The Hide Safari Camp was created from our passion for nature in general, and Hwange National Park and our country in particular.
It was built in 1992 in one of Hwange’s prime wildlife areas by the late Tom Preston, a charismatic and enterprising man whose love of wildlife and conservation shines through to this day.
The camp is situated on a private concession on the eastern boundary of Hwange National Park and with stunning views across a natural waterhole, it’s the perfect location for creating the incredibly close connections to nature for which The Hide is famous.
The Prestons remain actively involved in the running of the camp, fulfilling Tom’s original vision of an unpretentious, family operated camp - and growing it with distinctive and innovative style. Over the years The Hide has earned its reputation as a consummate safari destination, for both the exceptional wildlife experience and the hospitality it offers. Hwange was once the royal hunting ground of Ndebele kings and has long been known for its abundant and diverse wildlife.
In particular, the park is known for herds of elephant and buffalo numbering in the hundreds. This is one of the best places to see lion, leopard and African wild dog among the hundred or so other mammal and four hundred bird species.
We understand that you come to Africa first and foremost to encounter the continent’s natural beauty. At The Hide we are all about connecting in nature. From this superb location and with our extensive knowledge of the park and the best expert guides, guests can experience the true wilderness and abundant wildlife Hwange has to offer.
